FutureMe Enterprise 2019 - Launch

The FutureMe Enterprise Challenge 2019 is officially underway!

The FutureMe Enterprise Challenge is a joint programme of activity between FutureMe and the three football clubs in the region; Middlesbrough FC, Newcastle United FC, and Sunderland AFC. Students taking part benefit from receiving the Premier League Core Programme and FutureMe workshops which are all delivered in school throughout the summer term. The premier league core programme introduces students to business and enterprise in the context of a football club, learning that football is about so much more than the 11 players on the pitch! Students are supported in applying their new knowledge and skills to a challenge set by FutureMe, details of which are below.

Year 9 students from schools across the region were invited to attend launch events held the five universities in the region; Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, and Teesside, during which they had an introduction to the football club they will be working with, had an introduction to the challenge, experienced a university campus and took part in a campus tour, and considered their future options with our higher education ambassador workshop.

FutureMe Enteprise Launch 2019

For this year’s challenge students have been asked to:

“Create a 30 second YouTube advertisement to encourage young men into higher education”

During the summer term student will have to work in teams to research higher education and design a storyboard to plan their 30 second video. Students will come together in July at a celebration event where they will present their work to a panel of judges. The winners of each area final will have their storyboards transformed into higher education comic strips, while the overall regional winner will have their advertisement professionally created and displayed. As an added bonus, the regional winners will launch their video on North East Live!

It became clear to students that the standards are high when presented with the work from last year’s winners, Kingsmeadow Community School. In the 2018 challenge students were asked to create a marketing and advertising campaign to encourage young men into higher education, which included social media posts and a digital poster. The five area winners had their posters displayed in their local area, while Kingsmeadow hosted a radio show on SparkFM!
